This dress moves the style and message from the Undecided t-shirt from Always Forward, Never Back Collection over to the Soulful Wisdom Collection. Hard choices, tough decisions, indecision are a constant part of modern life. Perhaps no time in human history have individuals faced sorting through endless streams of information constantly bombarding them like a circular firing squad of inform of information overload. Competition for an individual’s human attention has never been higher, and everybody wants a piece of your time and attention: movie stars, movie makers, streaming platforms, social media influencers, television producers, news channels, podcasters, writers, musicians, corporations (selling you drugs, apparel, clothing, services, cars, furniture, etc.), entertainment industry (of course Hollywood, Broadway, opera, orchestra, etc.), sports industry, and the biggest attention seekers: politicians and political parties.
We have monetized our time and attention into fractured, rigid categories: a person gets paid X dollars for doing X activities for X hours. From this construction of reality, we create all sorts of complexities, hidden dangers, craft huge discrepancies and inequalities. It is not a fair system of exchange. It has never been fair, but after more than 5,000 years of living this way, we think it is the only way to exist. It is not.
This is where the Soulful Wisdom Collection comes into play to work away, slowly, gently with color, spirit, vividness, and imagination to hopefully inspire and help feed and restore you. As I discussed in the Undecided t-shirt, the idea for this shirt and the images that resulted from my exploration into the all too familiar state of feeling frozen in making an important decision emerges from Carl Jung’s work as a psychologist at the turn of the 20th Century. Through his work at the Burghölzli psychiatric hospital, in Zurich, under Eugen Bleuler. Jung established himself as an influential mind, developing a friendship with Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis, conducting a lengthy correspondence paramount to their joint vision of human psychology (Wikipedia).
Jung came to understand the human mind shares a symbolic reservoir of knowledge that spans across all times, places, and cultures. He called these living symbolic representations of common experiences all people share archetypes. These symbols are living symbols that all human beings need to maintain conscious self-awareness. Without conscious self-awareness, people would not know that they know something, and act purely based on instinctual responses to their environment.
How well a person comes to recognize and navigate their living reservoir of archetypes often determines the quality of their choices and actions in life. All choice and actions have consequences. Eastern thought calls this Karma. It is nothing more than the timeless law of cause and effect. For an individual to be able to make wise choices rather than choices obscured by unconscious biases or implicit prejudices, attitude, and mindsets, a person must cultivate the interior of their mind and exercise it, just as one must take care of and exercise the body.
As I create more product for this collection and others, we will explore more of your hidden inner world where magic happens all the time, it’s just learning how to see inside and recognize it so you can act wisely on who and what you really are.
